What's in Your Workout?

Every year the fall signals a few key things: the end of summer, the beginning of school, and football season. It seems along with those three items, fall inevitably is the beginning of new found motivation for baseball players to get back in the weight room and begin training. Often times, I will ask a player what kind of lifting or conditioning they are doing and the generic answer is usually "a bunch of different stuff." The follow up question(s) I ask usually confirm "a bunch of different stuff" is missing out on one of the most crucial elements to becoming a better athlete and player, mobility/flexibility work.

Baseball is a rotational sport and even the most finely tuned athlete tends to have some asymmetries or imbalances after a long season. Think about it. If you are a right handed hitter/thrower, think about the hundreds or thousands of times between practice and game reps you swung a bat and threw a ball since the start of last fall. It would be hard to imagine that one hip or another part of your body isn't quite moving as well as its counterpart on the other side.

Check out the video below for a quick mobility routine that should be done daily, and the best part, it only takes a few minutes to complete. Don't forget to do the exercises you learned last winter either!
